The two-month lockdown established in March 2020 by the Italian government following the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic has represented a moment of stress for citizens but also for the Italian information system. The amount of news on the emergency has simultaneously grown with the infodemic. The phase of lockdown was followed by a return to “normality”, in which most of the citizens returned to their routines, albeit with the addition of social distancing and masks. This study describes changes in the media diets of a representative sample of Italian internet users interviewed after the two months of total lockdown and, again, at the end of the summer, after a partial return to normality. It explores, through the information provided by this panel of citizens, changes related to the frequency of consumption of various news media, the level of satisfaction with the information received, and the degree of trust in the main newscast.
